Around 4 weeks ago, I noticed a small red bump on my arm. I thought it was a bug bite, so I didn't worry about it. But within a couple of days I realized something else was going on. The bump got very big, very fast. It was hot, and painful. It looked like a pimple... a really yucky pimple. Later that night, I woke up to a horrible amount of pain along my back and spine. The next morning I saw my doctor, who was confident that it was a staph infection. She drained the cyst, and took a culture. She started me on pain killers and Bactrim. Nine days after I started taking the Bactrim, I woke up covered in a rash. I didn't know if the rash was because of my staph infection, or if it was a side effect of the Bactrim. So, I stopped taking the Bactrim, since I only had 3 doses left anyway. My doctor's office never really seemed too concerned about any of this, or the fact that the pain in my back and joints continued to bother me.
Well, I finally heard back from my doctor's office... 4 weeks later. Goodness gracious! Let's not rush things, okay!?!? Let's spend all of our time and resources worrying about all those people who COULD possibly get the swine flu, and ignore the people who really have something going on. Staph infections aren't nearly as important as the swine flu. I mean, this could have been life threatening, but no one seemed too worried about any of that. Sorry, I will stop venting now, I promise!
So, the results are in... I do not have MSRA (antibiotic resistant staph). Well, I could have told them that, considering that I took antibiotics and the infection went away. Good thing they weren't overly concerned about any of this. Oops, I promised to stop venting. Okay, I'll stop venting, starting now!
My doctor told me that the pain in my joints should slowly continue to fade away. And it does seem like that's what is happening. The pain is still there, but it is so minimal compared to what it was. Overall, I am very thankful that all of this seems to be behind me.

Glad you finally got the results, despite the fact that they are pretty worthless at this point. Keep getting better!
congrats! mine WAS MRSA. I'm thrilled for you that it wasn't. But VERY surprised that the culture took so long! They cultured me on Friday, and I had the results on Tuesday?!?!
