"Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

A good report

I am happy to report that Avery's had 2 great days of school so far this week. No tears in the car on the way home after school... No refusals to get dressed in the mornings... It's been nice! She told me that she got to talk with the school counselor on Monday. They talked about how she felt and why she was sad and scared. And the counselor reinforced the concept of "good friend vs. not-so-good friend." After she was done talking with the counselor, Avery was allowed to pick 1 friend to stay inside with her and their teacher during recess time. She picked one of her friends she simply could not stop talking about at the beginning of the school year. This little girl was described to me by the teacher as, "Just about the sweetest thing, next to Avery!" :-) Avery kept going on and on after school on Monday about how she and this little girl played baby dolls together, and then they did puzzles and read books together. And I asked her how she felt when she was playing with this girl, and she smiled really big and said, "You were right, Mommy! I played with ____ (insert girl's name), and I feel happy!" ***deep sigh of relief***

I am thankful that it seems like Avery has learned an important lesson through this experience; we need to be nice to our friends and treat them with kindness and respect, and we need to set a good example and pray for them, but we don't have to allow ourselves to be mistreated by them. True friendship is a gift!

“A true friend knows the song in your heart and sings it with you along the way, then sings it to you when you forget the words.”
