Samuel has always been fairly tall for his age. So has Avery. They've always hovered somewhere between the 85th - 95th percentile in height. Isaac, on the other hand, has never gone above the 50th percentile, and that was on his best day at the pediatrician's office. :-)
I was told to measure the kids at around the age of 2, to get an estimate of how tall they should be as adults. You measure girls at the age of 2, and boys at the age of 2 1/2, because boys tend to develop slower than girls.
When Samuel turned 2 1/2, I took his height and doubled it. He was 37 1/2 inches tall, which means that in his adulthood he should tower over Hector and I at 6' 3". Hector is 5' 10" and I am 5' 6". This really was no shock to us though, since Hector and I both have several family members who are over 6 feet tall. When Avery turned 2, she was 36 1/2 inches tall. Which means that in her adulthood, she should also tower over Hector and I at 6' 1". And while I realize that no formula can truly predict a child’s height, it's still pretty cool to think about how tall my children will be when they are adults.
Well, the time has come to measure Isaac! Can you believe he's 2 1/2??? So, I put butcher paper down on the table, and stretched him out just as far as he would let me. Stretch, Bubba! Stretch!!! Isaac measured in at a whopping 33 1/2 inches tall, which means... drum roll, please... that in his adulthood, he should hit me right about at my eye level, at 5' 7" tall. I think it's safe to say that Isaac definitely did not inherit the tall gene in our family... Poor Little Fella'!
