Quote of the Month

"Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's raining. It's pouring.

I won't EVEN complain about the rain here today......because I know many of you reading this live in areas that have not seen a substantial amount of rainfall in months. But I will just say that the rain here has made things today a bit of a challenge for a particular mommy of 3, who was bound and determined to complete the children's curriculum for her Mothers of Preschoolers meetings for the entire fall semester. But from the minute the rain started to come down this morning, I could tell it was going to be a long day and that I was not going to get much (if any) work done. My kids were bored and wanted something to do. So I did what any mommy of 3 bored children, stuck inside because of the rain, would do. I showed Samuel a few new websites full of educational games, and told him to play to his heart's content. And Avery and I got caught up on a few sewing projects while Isaac ate some Cheetos and supervised our work.

Avery and I took a pair of jeans that she absolutely loves, and we cut them off at the knees where she had worn holes into them. We hemmed them up and just like that, we made them into a perfectly good pair of shorts!!!
Then I let Avery sew a few wash cloths out of terry cloth material that I've had forever, or so it seems anyway. I thought it would be good for her to practice sewing in straight lines. She gave it her best effort, but sewing in a straight line is tough! The wash cloths turned out a bit smaller than I had originally envisioned them turning out. But they sure did turn out cute and Avery was very proud of her work. She did a great job!
After it was all said and done, we decided she could use the wash cloths for her baby dolls. And that made Avery very happy!
