Quote of the Month

"Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Last Names

Avery: "Mommy, why is it that when some women grow up and get married, they change their last name?"

Me: "Well, I think it's because some women want to show respect for their husband and for the new family they are joining. So they drop their maiden name and take on their husband's last name as their own. But a lot of times, women keep their maiden name and use it along with their husband's last name too. You have a choice..."

Avery: "I think when I grow up, I'll just marry Daddy. That way my name can be Avery Acevedo Acevedo."

Me: "Ah, that's so sweet. But Daddy's already married to me, and quite frankly, that's illegal."

Avery: "This is all very confusing! Why can't I marry Daddy? I mean, if you married him and you're my mom, why can't I marry him if he's my dad?"

Me: "Because you just can't, that's why. No more questions, Avery. It's only 9:30 and I've already reached my limit for the day." :-)
